South London charity secures funds to improve garden
October 20th, 2025
We're delighted to be funding garden improvements for a south London charity, which will provide the homeless with a space to relax.
As part of our Community Heroes initiative, Sutton Night Watch has secured £1,000 worth of materials. The funds will be used by the charity to improve its facilities to grow its own vegetables, which will be used to provide meals for the homeless.
The main function of the charity is to support and raise awareness for homeless people in the London Borough of Sutton and its surrounding area. It provides essentials like food, showers and clothes.
Sutton Night Watch is one of five monthly winners in August to receive the £1,000 prize money, which it will spend in the Purley Selco store on Imperial Way.
Nadine Kennedy, Fundraising Manager for the charity, said: “We are delighted to be named as a Selco Community Hero, and this is going to provide us with a great opportunity to continue our work providing support for the homeless.
“As a charity, we don’t just provide the basics like food. We also offer health services, benefit advice and educational courses.
“The vital building materials from Selco will allow us to improve our garden, which will not only turn into a versatile space for our users to be productive in, but will also help to stock our kitchens with new vegetable growing facilities.”
One of the charity’s goals is to make sure no one goes to sleep on an empty stomach while providing a place to be seen, heard and understood.
Sutton Night Watch is one of several groups to win £1,000 store credit.
Simon Humpage, Head of Multi-Channel Marketing at Selco, said: “This is exactly what the Community Heroes campaign is all about - Sutton Night Watch is a worthy winner.
“We were so impressed with the support it provides homeless people in the south London area and the work they do to provide people with a haven and a place to go. It is a privilege to help them improve their garden facilities.”
