Grout is an essential step in the tiling process to fill in the gaps between the tiles – not only does this create a clean, finished look, but it also helps support the integrity of the tiles, providing structural stability and enhancing water resistance. Like adhesives, there are many types of tile grout available depending on the type of tile you’re using, the room you’re tiling in, environmental conditions and other requirements of the job. Grout can be cement based (either sanded or unsanded), epoxy, acrylic, or polyurethane based. The grout should be suitable for the type of tile being used – for example, sanded grouts might cause damage to delicate tiles like marble, and tiles in bathrooms and showers will require waterproof grout too.

Grout can be coloured to match the tiles or to enhance the appearance. Darker grout might hide stains better, while lighter grout could make the space feel lighter and bigger. If you’re after black bathroom grout for a modern look, Dunlop’s GX-500 flexible black grout for tiles is an excellent choice.
