More information about Suspended Ceiling

What is a suspended ceiling?

A suspended ceiling is also known as a dropped ceiling or a false ceiling and is hung from the original structural ceiling within a building. A ceiling suspension can add aesthetic value by hiding the unsightly wires, pipes and venting that run across the main ceiling and create a neat, uniform and professional finish. The false ceiling is created from grid framing made up of metal tracks that hang from suspended ceiling wire or hangers connected to the ceiling, with ceiling tiles inserted into the grid sections of the framing.

A suspended ceiling system can help with thermal insulation due to the added layer of space and can provide space for installing lighting fixtures or air vents to help with ventilation. They even help with the acoustics of the room by reducing echoes if the system is used with sound-absorbing materials such as perforated ceiling tiles.

Because suspended ceilings are great at improving the energy efficiency, acoustics, and overall appearance of a building, they are often found in offices, schools, stores and hospitals.

What do you need to install a suspended ceiling?

Suspended ceiling tiles

We’ve got a selection of suspended ceiling tiles to choose from, such as our 20 pack of 600 x 600 suspended ceiling tiles. Individual ceiling tiles, also known as ceiling panels, fit into the grid framework and can be made from various materials including metal, PVC, mineral fiber and styrene. Depending on your client’s needs for acoustics, fire resistance, durability and desired look, we’re sure you’ll find something for every project.

Suspended ceiling grids and framing

To create your ceiling suspension grid, you’ll need a selection of metal tracks including main runners, which are the primary channels that provide the main support, as well as cross tees, that connect to the main runners to create the grid system. You’ll also need fixings and accessories such as brackets and ceiling suspension wire.
