Selco donates £500 store credit to Exeter mental health charity
October 25th, 2022A mental health charity will carry out a renovation of its acute mental health hospital facility in Newton Abbot, thanks to a donation from our Exeter branch.
Step One, a mental health support charity based in Exeter, has received £500 worth of materials.
The charity, which supports more than 800 people a year, will use the donation to transform its old Occupational Therapy suite at the hospital into an updated space to teach valuable life skills, such as cooking, hold mindfulness and sensory sessions, and offer a space for families to visit.
Annie Williams, Facilities Manager at Step One, said: “We are hugely grateful to the donation made by Selco Builders Warehouse.
“This project is one we’ve been excited to get underway with as it will provide a great space for a variety of sessions. The renovation has been a big project, transforming the space, which was full of damp and not fit for purpose, into a damp free useable space for our team and visitors to benefit from.
“The support from Selco Exeter has been gratefully received and we always enjoy a visit to the branch, where the team have been very helpful throughout the process.”
Barry Price, manager at our Exeter branch, based on Filmer Way, said: “One of our big commitments at Selco is to, where we can, support the communities in which we operate, and this donation is further evidence of that.
“Step One do fantastic work across Devon, and we look forward to seeing its renovation project take shape.”
Step One specialises in supporting people with their mental health in varying formats. As well as its acute hospital facility, the charity also has two supporting living properties, a busy community team who provide invaluable sessions with the prison service and trainers, who provide coaching sessions to enable support to those when they need it.
