SELCO BRADFORD HELPS MEMORIAL FOR TEENAGER

Our Bradford branch has been proud to support a local family in its quest to construct a memorial pond for their teenage son who recently passed away following a long battle with cancer.

Shane Edwards, who lived in Bierley, passed away on June 30 aged 16 and more than a decade after his first cancer diagnosis.

To mark Shane’s love of fish, his family have created a memorial pond at the bottom of their garden and Selco have contributed materials to help finish the project and construct a walkway.

Tracy Edwards, Shane’s mother, said: “It’s been an incredibly difficult time but we are hugely grateful to Selco for helping us create an area in the garden which will be dedicated to the memory of Shane.

“He was a real fighter and we called him Superman because it felt like that was what he was. He had numerous cancer diagnosis, including three separate brain tumours, AML/MDS, and bowel cancer, and each time he dealt with the treatment and was so brave.

“In the end it was osteosarcoma of the skull which Shane couldn’t beat and took him from us.

“Shane loved fish so, while he was alive, we looked to create a fish pool in the garden. Now he has gone, we are turning that into a memorial area so his memory will always live on with the entire family, including his three brothers.”

Dave Penney, branch manager of Selco Bradford based on Tong Street, said: “Everyone locally is aware of Shane and how hard he has battled cancer over many years.

“It’s a heartbreaking time for Shane’s family and there is nothing we can do to ease that, but hopefully our donation of building materials has gone a very small way to providing them with some comfort at this time.

“As a branch team, we are extremely proud to have made this donation and our thoughts remain with Tracy and the rest of her family.”
