More information about External Wooden Doors

What are the benefits of using external wooden doors?

Above all, the main benefit of using external wooden doors is their natural beauty and aesthetic appeal. Designed to add traditional warmth and character to the outside of any home, wooden exterior doors come in a variety of styles, colours and finishes to suit any budget, size requirements and design preferences.

Wooden doors have high durability and strength, especially solid wooden doors which would be denser and more hard-wearing and can withstand weather conditions and provide protection against warping or cracking over time. Not only do your wood front doors and back doors aid entrance to the house and help prevent unwanted intruders, but they offer a good level of insulation and soundproofing too.

Wooden doors can also be easily painted, varnished or stained to whatever colour your customer has in mind – you could create a statement piece that stands out, or match it to the rest of the house’s exterior decor. There are many different styles available for your doors: smooth or grained textures, flush or panelled designs, contemporary or traditional – the choice is yours!

What types of wooden front doors do we have available?

Whether you’re looking for wooden back doors or front doors, we’ve got something for every project available at Selco, with top brands such as Premdor or LPD Doors to browse through. No matter your customer’s budget, requirements or style preferences, we’re sure you’ll find what you’re looking for to complete your latest project to the highest standard.

We stock both hardwood and softwood external doors, each with their own set of unique features and benefits. Hardwood is a slow-grown timber and is usually denser, heavier and stronger, whilst softwood is faster growing, meaning it tends to be lightweight and easy to work with as well as less expensive. If you’re after high-quality hardwood front doors, there’s our Colonial 6 Panel External Door, which has raised and recessed panels which can be used to give a traditional charm to the front of a house.

As well as solid hardwood external doors, we have other solid wooden front doors to browse through to suit the job at hand. We have ledged and braced doors, such as our Framed Ledged and Braced Door which are made from redwood, a softwood, and are great for period homes or cottage and barn conversions.

Plywood, which is a mixture of hardwood and softwood as it’s made from several crossed layers of wood veneer, is also a great choice for external doors. We have a couple of external plywood doors to choose from, some of which can double as fire doors to provide certain levels of fire resistance. We have several external flush doors made from plywood too, which sit ‘flush’, or in-line with, the door frame and feature a smooth flat surface with no panels or embellishments.

So, whether you’re after plywood or hardwood, panelled or flush, traditional or modern, we’ve got plenty to choose from for your next timber front door. As well as wooden outside doors, we also stock composite doors and uPVC doors.
