Selco Builders Warehouse has cut the ribbon on its 63rd UK branch on Ashley Road in St Albans.

To mark the opening, Selco has made a £1,000 donation to St John Fisher Primary School, Macmillan Cancer Support and Global’s Make Some Noise.

Darren Marston, branch manager at Selco St Albans, said: “It’s great to be able to further increase our already strong presence in and around London with the opening of this branch.

“To support charities in the communities in which we operate is an integral part of the Selco ethos. We hope the funding will make a real difference to our three very worthy causes.”

St John Fisher Primary School, based on Hazelmere Road, will use the funding to help build an outdoor area for its reception class.

Laura Flitton, headteacher at the school, said: “We’re thrilled to be chosen by Selco as part of the celebrations for the opening of its St Albans branch.

“The donation of £1,000 will make a huge difference and it means we can start work on our new outdoor area, which is in urgent need of a makeover.

“We’re sure the new space will be loved by pupils at our school for many years to come and we can’t thank Selco enough for their generosity.”

Selco’s donation to Macmillan Cancer Support’s work in St Albans is in addition to more than £500,000 it has raised for the charity nationally over the past five years.

Gini Smith, from Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Selco has provided amazing backing nationally over the last five years and it is fantastic that people in and around St Albans will benefit with assistance for bills, such as heating, through Selco’s contribution towards Macmillan grants.”

Selco will also be supporting Global’s Make Some Noise, which supports youngsters and their families living with illness, disability and lack of opportunity including The Centre for ADHD & Autism Support (CAAS) who provide services to families in the area.

CAAS provides essential support to children and young people affected by ADHD and autism and their families including counselling, workshops, creative and drama therapy and peer-to-peer support groups.

Aimee Hayhurst, Make Some Noise’s Partnerships Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be benefitting from Selco’s latest branch opening.

“This generous donation will help us to continue our support to charities like CAAS which is a vital lifeline for those with ADHD and autism. People affected by these conditions can struggle socially and feel incredibly lonely, while the impact on their families or carers can be immense.”
