Managers down tools and start training for epic challenge

August 8th, 2014
A group of managers from across our London branches are swapping business suits for lycra as they embark on an ambitious 100 mile coastal cycling challenge for charity. The team of 15 branch managers will cycle 100 miles of the Norfolk and Suffolk coastline in order to raise funds for the company’s nominated charity Macmillan Cancer Support. Croydon branch manager Paul Asquith is so committed to completing the challenge that he has set up a training area within the branch where he can cycle when the chance arises in preparation for the marathon. He says: “The training in branch started as a bit of fun but actually has had the desired effect of making me put the hours in. It has also helped encourage customers and suppliers to support the team by digging deep to donate cash to the charity. “It won’t be an easy feat to complete the 100 miles but we will be all there as a team spurring each other on, with motivation coming from the knowledge that the money will help Macmillan deliver the much-needed support for those dealing with cancer.” Since 2012, Selco colleagues, employees and suppliers have amassed a massive £100,000 for Macmillan and have this year pledged to raise an additional £50,000. Ross Sandy, Charlton branch manager, and leader of the cycle challenge team is hoping £15,000 can be raised from the challenge and is encouraging his team to train hard ahead of the big day in August. He said: “Some of us are more used to getting on bikes than others but regardless of our previous experience, this will be a personal challenge for us all. We are grateful for all of the support and donations we have received so far and hope to meet our target.” Donate today on our just giving page!
