Our new charity has been chosen!

January 22nd, 2012
At the beginning of 2012 all the Selco staff voted to decide which charity the company will be supporting for the next couple of years. Thanks to all who took part, we are proud and happy to say that Macmillan Cancer Support were chosen with 39% of the vote. By 2030, the number of people living with cancer will double to 4 million. As survival rates increase and people live longer, the need for cancer care services and information will go up and the demand for Macmillan’s support will be even greater. It is a shocking fact that more than one in three of us will get cancer. It’s the toughest fight most of us will ever face. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed, you need a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way. We are the nurses and therapists helping you through treatment. The experts on the end of the phone. The advisers telling you which benefits you’re entitled to. The volunteers giving you a hand with the everyday things. The campaigners improving cancer care. The community supporting you online any time. The fundraisers who make it all possible. That’s who we are. “We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as your Charity partner for 2012/13 and want to say a huge thank you for getting behind Macmillan Cancer Support. Every day in the UK 882 people will hear the words “you have cancer”. Two million people are currently living with cancer and at the moment, we are reaching half of them, but we want to reach them all, and with the help of companies like Selco, we can achieve our goal. All the money raised from the partnership will help to provide practical, emotional, medical, and of course financial assistance to people affected by cancer. We are really excited to start working with you all and welcoming you to the Macmillan team. Thank you!”Nicola Skipwith, Macmillan Area Fundraising Manager Our target for 2012/2013 is to raise £100,000 for Macmillan, which sounds a lot, but we are already well on the way to achieving our target. There are lots of ways everyone can get involved to help raise funds, like sponsored walks, runs, cycle rides, triathlons, swimming events or even go cold turkey and give something up for Macmillan, the list is endless with what you can do. So why not join us, and with your help we can help Macmillan continue to deliver their wonderful, supportive service to the community and help change lives that have been affected by cancer.
