More than 50 Southwark job seekers will start their new jobs this week as a building supplies, equipment and tool provider gears up to open its 17th London branch off Old Kent Road.
Selco Builders Warehouse plans to open the store in April and has employed 50 local people in roles such as trade counter assistants, specific product experts, supervisors, cleaning assistants and cashiers as well as caterers for its in-branch cafe.
The company’s policy is to employ people from the branch’s local community, ensuring local and knowledgeable staff are able to assist customers with their enquiries and providing local economic benefit.
Chris Cunliffe, Selco managing director, said: “Despite the difficult trading conditions in our sector we are increasing both market share and our branch network. The fact that we can continue to create jobs is making a positive impact on the communities in which we operate.”
Branch manager Darrell Carter takes the helm, having previously run the company’s Catford branch. He comments: “The new staff are looking forward to the branch opening and are currently undergoing training for their roles. As with all of Selco’s new branch openings, here at Old Kent Road we have encouraged applications from the local area and were delighted by the large number and high calibre of applicants.
“Customers at the new branch will benefit from Selco’s three guarantees that underpin our entire offering, which are unrivalled availability with the widest range of products in stock, excellent customer service and straight trade pricing.”
Concluding, Chris says: “We have embarked upon an ambitious growth strategy and our commitment to providing greater access to competitively priced products that are readily available in branch and will continue to work towards opening more branches in London including Wimbledon in June.”
