Builders Merchants Selco is using its headline sponsorship of the Selco Masters Cup to support grass roots football in the area, and has provided local clubs football in the community schemes with an array of tickets and goodies.
As well as around £5,000 worth of complimentary tickets to attend the Selco Midlands Masters event, which takes place this Saturday at Birmingham’s NIA (kick off 7pm), community officers will also have official ball-boy places and branded merchandise to give away to local youngsters.
The tournament will see former players from Midlands clubs Birmingham City, Aston Villa, West Brom, Wolves, Walsall and Coventry compete for local honours and a place in the Selco Masters grand final in September.
Selco Chief Operating Officer, Chris Cunliffe says the company wanted to use its sponsorship to involve the local communities of the teams involved.
He said: “This is Selco’s second year of sponsoring the Masters Cup and as a community focused business we wanted to ensure that we involved as much of the local area as possible.
“Teaming up with Football in the Community schemes at the clubs has been a great way of using the packages to reward kids in the area – whether that be for outstanding performances, attendance or for simply giving up their time.
“The clubs have been delighted to have involved in this way and I think it will really add to the atmosphere at the event.”
Community officers representing the local clubs collected the goodies from Chris at the NIA and are delighted that Selco has chosen to involve the clubs at grass roots level.
Sky Blues community officer Guy Rippon said: “The tickets and ball boy places will go to deserving kids in the run up to the tournament and they will be delighted to be involved in the tournament – we are grateful to Selco for involving us.”
