HOT prospect Josh Auty has joined the Selco Birmingham Brummies Speedway team for their 2012 Sky Sports Elite League campaign.

Auty, 21, will double-up from Premier League Scunthorpe and joins Ben Barker, skipper Danny King and Grand Prix star Bjarne Pedersen in the Selco Brummies side.

He is currently away in Australia on a racing holiday and Birmingham boss Graham Drury is delighted to get his man.

He said: “I’ve watched his progress over the last few years and I believe he has the potential to become a top rider in the sport.

“He’s an entertainer and I’m delighted to welcome him to Perry Barr where he won’t take too much time to become a firm favourite with the fans, I feel certain of that.

“He has a bright future in the sport, he has the ability to go all the way and carve out a very successful career at international level.”

Ben Barker

BIRMINGHAM Speedway are delighted to confirm the return of the hugely popular Ben Barker for the 2012 season.

Barker’s immediate future had been the cause of intense speculation because of a potential clash of fixtures with his Premier League club Plymouth.

But Selco Brummies boss Graham Drury has worked with the sport’s fixture compilers to ensure Barker will be available for all meetings.

He joins Bjarne Pedersen and skipper Danny King on the Birmingham rosta for the 2012 season which starts next March.

Said Drury: “I’m very pleased to have Ben on board, he has plenty of ambition and is a firm favourite with the crowd at Perry Barr.

“I would like to thank Jon Cook and John Campbell who are the fixture compilers, I gave them early notice of Ben’s potential fixture clashes and as things stand he will be available for us in all our meetings.”

BIRMINGHAM Speedway are celebrating a club record sponsorship deal ahead of their second season in the sport’s top flight.

Selco Builders Warehouse will carry their identity with the team throughout what promises to be an exciting 2012 season which starts next March.

The team will now be known as ‘Selco Birmingham Brummies’ as they travel the length and breadth of the UK and appear on Sky Sports HD coverage of the Elite League.

It’s a massive boost for the club – and the sport in general – as it underlines what an attractive product Speedway is. It continues to be widely regarded as one of the nation’s favourite family sports.

Selco Builders Warehouse Marketing Manager Simon Humpage said: “Selco are delighted to confirm that we will be the team title sponsor of the Selco Birmingham Brummies for the 2012 season.

“We feel that the sponsorship will be a great opportunity to give something back to our customers, as well as the obvious brand exposure benefits brought about through extensive exposure on Sky Sports and national and regional print media.

“Selco believes that the Speedway is a great fit with our customer profile with many of our customers in Birmingham already following the Brummies and customers around the country following Speedway nationally.”

Brmingham Speedway commercial manager Joe McLaughlin said: “I am proud and honoured to have secured such a household name.

“Contact with Selco came about when I first got in touch with them in 2010 and a local sponsorship with the Perry Barr Selco branch for materials was agreed in March for the 2011 season.”

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to Selco for agreeing to this major sponsorship.  The pitching and contracting of this major sponsorship is very good news for British Speedway generally. It shows that large national companies can be attracted to the sport.

“ Speedway is a wonderful, spectacular and exciting sport and just as Birmingham have shown with our fantastic new main sponsors Selco.”
